I have a deep appreciation for no-code tools. Zapier, Make, Airtable, Notion — they've democratized automation and allow people without programming skills to connect processes that previously required developer time. Anyone who has built a workflow in Make that automatically writes form data into a CRM while simultaneously sending a Slack message understands the magic at work. That is genuine progress.
But no-code tools only treat a symptom. The real problem runs deeper: there is a fundamental language barrier between humans and machines. Humans think in intentions, contexts, exceptions. Machines need exact rules, precise structures, unambiguous if-then logic. No-code bridges this gap with visual interfaces — but the user still has to learn how the machine thinks. They have to adapt. Not the machine.

This is where AI becomes genuinely interesting — and I mean that in a very concrete sense. Tools like ChatGPT show for the first time that machines can begin to understand the language of humans. Not perfectly, not always reliably — but the direction is right. An AI that understands natural-language instructions and derives structured processes from them would complete the no-code revolution: automation without the detour through machine logic. Whether we get there in five years or fifteen, no one knows. But the journey has begun.
No-code shifts the complexity — it doesn't eliminate it. AI could make good on the real promise: that the machine comes to us, not us to it.
