Consultancies track their time by project and client. Anyone who travels keeps a second list alongside it: trips, receipts, per diems, mileage. Both end up with accounting at month-end, usually as a manual handover. That is exactly the gap TimeTravel, our tool for time and travel, closes.
One entry, two results
TimeTravel manages projects and clients, records working time and also handles travel: per diems, receipts and mileage. This produces reports and exports that do not need to be touched again. Travel expenses go to accounting as a posting-ready DATEV export. In our own company, they flow directly into clearing the shareholder account.
Checks happen at entry, not at the client. Overlaps, overly long days, entries in the future and exceeded budgets are flagged immediately. Approval is given per client and period. After that, nothing can be moved, and corrections remain traceable. The result is a service report for the invoice and a posting batch for the tax advisor.
Does this sound familiar?
If your travel expenses are pieced together in Excel at month-end, let us show you in a first conversation how time and travel run in one flow.
Operations without friction
Login runs via single sign-on. Support is handled first by an AI agent that uses an MCP integration to carry out set-up and changes at the user's request. Anything beyond that becomes a ticket. If a client wants an additional feature, they request it directly in the tool. It is assessed by effort and implemented either for everyone or just for that client.
Why the export matters so much is explained in our article From Document to DATEV Entry: individual postings instead of totals make the tax advisor's work auditable.
Three takeaways
- Time and travel belong together. Both happen in the same week and are needed in the same billing run.
- The export is the product. A DATEV export that can be posted without rework saves accounting more than any nicer entry screen.
- Small tools with a clear purpose. Where standard software covers only part of the process, a lean addition is often the fastest solution. More under Software & Apps.
